Local students do a charity fashion show for breast cancer!
A group of students from Blackpool and the Fylde college organised a fashion show from scratch to raise money for breast cancer. The students, Rebecca Hewitt, Stephanie Barker and Michael Downy, all 21, managed to get a free room at the famous Winter Gardens, and put on a fantastic show by also getting local high street stores to donate clothes from their Spring/Summer 11 collections. The Mayor of Blackpool was there and the group managed to raise over £500 for charity which was all in aid of Rebecca's grandmother who sadly died of the disease some years ago.
Fashion for Charity.. all for a good cause!

Fashion can be used for many good causes, its not all about that particular dress or really pretty jewellery. Fashion can change peoples lives for the better and really help out organazitations and charitys. Fashion targets breast cancer has the support of celebrities and leading high street brands such as Topshop, River Island, H & M and M & S just to name a few. There new campaign was launched on the 8th April 2011 and is named 'Fashion is' which is the charities 15th year in a row. FTBC usually releases one t-shirt per year, but this time has gone all out and released a whole collection which starts at £1.50 and ranges to £157, all items can be bought through high street stores which are listed on their website which I will leave at the bottom of this post. Fashion targets breast cancer has raised over £15 million over the years and hopes to raise a £1 million in the next six weeks.
The slogan t-shirt is available from Topshop priced £18 which reads 'starts with a L and ends in a E in between are O and E'. There is also vintage peach satchel from River Island is £29.99, 30% of the items all go to FTBC. Get yours on the link below!

Cara Lee Gledhill is 22 years old and a student at the University of Central Lancashire studying drama and the preforming arts. She does part time modelling work usually for charity shows. I had a brief interview with her today to find out what inspires her and where she gets her fashion mojo from. (First4fashionNW- F4F. Cara- CLG).
F4F: So Cara I know that you modelled for the Blackpool Fashion Show which was in aid of breast cancer, can you talk me through the process please?
C: Well the process was quite difficult, luckily the organizers of the event got in contact with me, so thankfully there wasnt an audition process. But the actual getting the clothes together and the rehersals were quite difficult as we were on a very tight timescale and people had prior commitments, so all in all we had one rehersal before the live show.
F4F: Did you enjoy doing the live catwalk show or is photoshoots usually more your forte?
C: I really enjoyed the catwalk because I do lots of preforming so I felt as if I could really put the clothes and makeup on and become who ever I wanted, also when your infront of a photographer the lights are on you and it can become quite a daunting experience.
F4F: What do you think of the North/South fashion divide? Do you think that the girls in the North are a lot more glam and the girls in the South are maybe more grungy?
C: I actually lived down South and find that the girls down there a so much skinnier than in the North, no one really eats anything. I really think that the more money a place has got the more superficial it can be, so it was hard to live there. I think the girls down South definatly have a different type of look. I personally would mix it up when I was down there, kind of like a Southern style with a little Northen twist!
F4F: That sounds great, keeping your individuality! Finally Cara, who would you say your style icon is and where do you love to shop?
C: I really like the way Alexa Chung dresses, she always looks really smart, and I also love Blake Lively she looks glam everytime I see a picture of her. I like to shop in River Island, Miss Selfridge and Topshop- although Topshop can sometimes be a bit wacky for me.

Style Stalker...
This is 20 year old Student, Keisha Owen, is wearing a lightweight parker coat from Matalan, her bag is from River Island, her scarf, top and chino pants are all from H & M, her shoes are from Primark and her earings are from Miss Selfridge. Keisha says she doesn't have a particular style or style icon, she just mixes and matches depending upon her mood. Keisha Owen we think you look fabulous!
